Scott Comas Bay Fishing

Monday, March 15, 2010

Took Scott Comas and his son Micheal out fishing for a half day in the bay. Headed out at 6:30am from Shelter Island and did our first stop at my usual spot due to bait balls all around. On the way I did notice the water was 57.6 in the bay, which was not good. It had dropped quite a bit from last weeks trip. Micheal’s first two casts presented him with two bass!  Scott pulled in a few more Bass to help keep the day busy and the Navy filled in the rest of the time with the largest amount of “ship” traffic I have ever seen!! We saw 7 different ships go in or out of the bay in 4 hours of fishing! The highlight of the day was watching the John Stennis come into port which is a huge aircraft carrier powered by 2 nuclear reactors. This boat was massive and dwarfed the other ships we had seen previously. Very impressive boat. We were politely escorted out of the channel so it could pass through with no threats. Four gun boats protected it the entire time. The weather was really nice and as always, the bay provided more entertainment than just fishing!

Scott with a few of his Sand Bass! Yes, I caught him with his eyes closed, but it’s still a nice Spotted Bay Bass and had the Reagan aircraft carrier in the background!
