From The Captain:

I started San Diego Fishing Adventures to help promote a balance between fishing and conservation. Most of us who grew up fishing were taught to keep everything that is caught no matter what the species or size. We were proud to come in and show how many fish we caught with no regard to whether we should have kept the fish or not. This way of thinking needs to become history before our fisheries become history. In my short life so far I have seen the depletion in various species of fish off the San Diego coast. From sharks offshore to Calico Bass in the local kelp, they have all dropped in numbers over the years. And to sit here and think that other species in our oceans are not being depleted is obscene. I have seen over 20 commercial tuna boats wrapping hundreds of thousands of tuna within 40 miles of San Diego. I believe we all need to try to do our part to help save our fisheries no matter how little we feel our part is. I also realize that many of us, including myself, love the taste of fresh fish. This is where the compromise comes in with the balance between fishing and conservation. Instead of keeping everything you catch, keep only what you will eat fresh and release the rest for the future generations.

San Diego Fishing Adventures is trying to help spread this new way of thinking by educating our customers and showing them how satisfying it is to release a prized catch. You don’t have to keep your catch these days to show it off! San Diego Fishing Adventures will always have a digital camera on board to capture that prized fish forever without taking it’s life. We will also have the option for shooting video during your fishing experience with San Diego Fishing Adventures to help bring your exciting experience back to friends and family. I mean lets admit it, half the fun is fishing and the other half is telling the stories about your amazing experience. And San Diego Fishing Adventures is dedicated to creating a story for you to remember for a lifetime! So book a trip with us and see for yourself how fun and satisfying fishing can be off the beautiful coast of San Diego!

Captain

Long time fisherman and tournament winner Captain Peter Hamann has been fishing the San Diego area for over 20 years and living in San Diego for over 33 years. He grew up fishing in the local San Diego lakes with his father and eventually made it on his uncles boat out of Oceanside. Once he got a taste for ocean fishing the bug was born and he knew fishing was going to be a part of his life forever. In between his uncles boat and acquiring his own boat, Captain Peter fished the beautiful shores of Del Mar and often paddled out on his longboard into the local kelp beds to pull on some local Calico bass. But by far the most fishing experience he has received was from fishing with his long time friends, and 2nd family, the Hastings. To this day, Captain Peter Hamann still fishes with them on their 23’ Boston Whaler called Minorca. From there Captain Peter began to explore South of the border into the Baja peninsula and discovered some of the best fishing the world has to offer. Over the last 15 years Captain Peter has explored the shores and offshore banks of Ensenada, San Quintin, Bahia de los Angeles, San Fransisquito, Abrejos, La Bocana, San Juanico, Loreto, Magdalena Bay and East Cape. His extensive knowledge and experience in Baja has led him to some amazing fishing experiences from over sized Rock Cod, to tackle busting Yellowtail, to acrobatic Dorado (Mahi Mahi) , to high speed Tuna and powerful Marlin. With these experiences under his belt he has decided to offer his services into the Baja peninsula for those who are looking for an adventure and the potential for world class fishing. He has also recently started to enter saltwater bass tournaments with his partner Terry Hastings and together they have had some successful results! Check out the tournament wins under the Publicity section!

Boat

San Diego Fishing Adventures has purchased a new 20’ Sea Fox boat as of June 2008. For a 20’ boat it packs a lot of punch and is very sea worthy and safe. The boat is powered by a 115hp 4 stroke Suzuki and is loaded with top of the line Raymarine electronics to insure the best possible fishing experience for our customers. We installed a custom T-Top to help provide shade for you and keep you as comfortable as possible.

Company Name/Logo

After going over and over all the different names I had come up with for a fishing guide business, I decided to utilize some great minds instead of breaking mine! I figured who would know better than those who could potentially represent my future customers. So, to come up with a business name, I decided to email all of my friends and family and ask them to send me at least 3 fishing guide names they thought would work for my business, and the winning name will get a day of fishing free. Once I compiled all of the names sent in, I cleaned them up a bit and resent them back out for everyone to vote on. Once all the votes were tallied, it was clear that the name “San Diego Fishing Adventures” created by Stephanie Ewalt was the winner! Finally the business had a name and was ready for a logo!

I knew I wanted a logo that was simple, easy to remember and showed that the business revolved around fishing. While talking with my girlfriend about this, she suggested to have one of the art classes at the school she teaches at make my “logo” one of their projects. With that idea, San Diego Fishing Adventures logo was conspired by having a logo contest among high school art students at Canyon Crest Academy.Once again, the winner will get a free day of fishing or a bay excursion. The art teacher, Mrs. Rais, allowed her graphics art class to work on my logo by utilizing this as a “real life” work experience. This opportunity gave the students a chance to create a project that was not just about a grade, but about a real life experience in creating a business logo.

Once all the logos were completed, we went over them trying to narrow our picks down to a half dozen or so. After going through them a few times over, we narrowed it down to a great logo created by Canyon Crest Academy student Taylor Snell. Her design was simple, creative, different and easy to remember since it incorporated the business name by using it’s abbreviations SDFA! Congratulations Taylor Snell to a job well done!

From this logo I hired my web designer Ashton Taylor with Digital Mud Studio to help round out the logo and make it work with my website. Ashton’s logo is the one you currently see at the top left of all the web pages. If you need a web designer, I highly recommend Ashton Taylor with Digital Mud Studio!
